Itineraries
The Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism Department of the Polotsk Town Council offers the following itineraries:
1. Pilgrimage (historical) tour
The Cathedral of St. Sophia – Borisov’s Stone – a Monument to Euphrosyne of Polotsk – the Church of the Theophany – the Church of the Patronage of the Mother of God – the Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God – the Convent of St. Euphrosyne – the Cathedral of the Exaltation of the Holly Cross 2. Historical-cultural (museum) tour
The Cathedral of St. Sophia – the Polotsk Art Gallery – the Red Bridge – the Museum of Nature and Ecology – the Belarusian Printing Museum – the Polotsk Regional Museum 3. Military-patriotic tour
A monument to Liberators of Polotsk (eternal fire) – the Red Bridge – Tank T 34 – Military Museum – the Eternity Hill – a Monument to Soldiers-Internationalists 4. Water tour (along the Zapadnaya Dvina River)
Polotsk – Novopolotsk – Polotsk, the Cathedral of St. Sophia – the Eternity Hill – the First Tent (monument) – St. Andrey Boboli’s Catholic Church - the Church of the Theophany – the Cathedral of St. Sophia 5. A six-day canoe trip “From the Varangians to the Greeks” along the borders of the former Polotsk Principality (200 km)
The Zapadnaya Dvina River – the river of Obolyanka – the river of Chernovka – the lake of Ezerische – further along the waterway up to Nizhniy Novgorod (Russia) .
Sports-tourist routes, pedestrian routes
Route No. 1
Polotsk-Gomel-Lake Yanovo-Polotsk
Duration – 3 days
Tourists will see wonderful nature of the Polotsk region and take a rest at the Yanovo lakeside. Near the village of Gomel they will see 34 1or 2-meter high burial mounds 6-10 meters in diameter. They will also visit a memorial compound in honour of the Soviet soldiers and partisans killed during the Great Patriotic War and monuments to the compatriots killed by the Nazis.
Route No. 2
Polotsk-the village of Forinovo-Polotsk
Duration – 2 days.
The route runs through the central part of the Polotsk fortified area. Tourists will get familiar with the history of the fortified area and its role in the town’s defence. They will also visit a museum of local lore located in the village of Forinovo.
Route No. 3
Polotsk-the village of Azino-Polotsk
Duration – 1 day
Tourists will take a rest at a lakeside, will visit a museum of local lore and will get familiar with the history of the village of Azino (old name – Beloye)
Route No. 4
Polotsk-villages of Dokhnory-Rudnya-Orteikhovichi-Barki-Kulnevo-Sokolnische-Zaborje-Klestiny
Length – 48 kilometres Duration – 4 days
Places to see: a monument to the victims of the Nazis in the village of Dokhnory; an ancient settlement and burial mounds of the Krivichi tribe in the village of Barki; an obelisk to Yakov Kulnev located 800 meters away from the motorway. A Stella-sign stands in front of the Drissa River near the motorway. There are remainders of an ancient fortress, built following the instructions of Ivan the Terrible during a war (16th century), at the junction of the Drissa and the Nischa in the village of Kulnevo. There is a communal grave, an ancient settlement and monuments to countrymen in the villages of Sokolinische Golovchitsy. Tourists will see a monument in honour of the victory of the Russian troops (1812), a communal grave and a monument to countrymen in the village of Klestiny.

Lakes Ozernoye – Volobo – Silsha – rivers – the Drissa – the Pischa – the Cherepyatista – Lake Valkavskoye
